MaxMara is an Italian fashion house founded in 1951 by Achille Maramotti in Reggio Emilia.

Initially founded under the name 'Confezioni Maramotti', MaxMara's main objective was to introduce American industrial processes into European tailoring: thus Italian ready-to-wear was born.

In 1981, French designer Anne-Marie Beretta designed the iconic 101801 coat, which took its cue from the men's coat.
