MaxMara is an Italian fashion house founded in 1951 by Achille Maramotti in Reggio Emilia.

Initially founded under the name 'Confezioni Maramotti', MaxMara's main objective was to introduce American industrial processes into European tailoring: thus Italian ready-to-wear was born.

The founder of MaxMara chose the men's coat as the iconic garment for the women's wardrobe, creating a one-of-a-kind garment capable of satisfying even the most refined tastes.

In the 1970s and 1980s, MaxMara began collaborating with internationally renowned designers such as Karl Lagerfeld and Narciso Rodriguez. 

In 1981, French designer Anne-Marie Beretta designed the iconic 101801 coat, which took its cue from the men's coat. 

MaxMara over time then enriched its collection with dresses, suits and accessories that were always elegant and refined but winked at the coolest trends of the moment.
